Linda Butler

Linda Butler has had thirty one-person museum exhibitions during the last 33 years including in Japan and Canada. Four books have been published of her photographs: Inner Light: The Shaker Legacy; Rural Japan: Radiance of the Ordinary; Italy in the Shadow of Time; Yangtze Remembered: The River beneath the Lake. She wrote the text in three of these books.

 

Butler’s images have been published in numerous journals and magazines. She has been given several awards including The Cleveland Art Prize in 1999; an Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Award in 1994; and a Kentucky Arts Council Individual Artist Award in 1989. Her photographs have been collected by museums including The Carnegie Museum of Art; The Cleveland Museum of Art; The Rias Ark Museum, Miyagi-ken, Japan; The Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, Canada; The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

 

Linda lives in Cleveland Heights with her husband, Steve Nissen, in a near-zero-energy passive-solar house.
