Ron Barron grew up in Youngstown, OH, the Rust Belt. In 1955, his art training began at the College of Fine Arts of Carnegie Institute of Technology (now CMU) in Pittsburgh, PA, where he majored in painting. The curriculum focused on classical discipline: drawing technique, color theory, design, painting and art history. His major artistic influences have been Abstract Expressionism, Dadaism, Surrealism, and Op Art.

 

Barron began his career as a fulltime artist in 2011. In the decade since, he has created a large body of work: pencil drawings, fine art photography using a flatbed scanner as his camera, acrylic paintings, assemblage sculpture and digital art. Represented by the Bonfoey Gallery, Barron is also on The Board of Trustees for the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio.

 

He lives in Poland, OH, and is married to author/lyricist Judy Barron. They have two children, Sean Barron, author/journalist and artist/editor Megan Barron.
